Long Island Attractions – All on a Freezing Playground!
Located at the entrance of the New York city, the Long island is not long, but is one of the most alluring islands for children, adult, and senior ones alike. I would say that it is a land of incredible natural attractions surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the East River. Not only this, it is also full of historical beauty. With clear beaches, water parks, museums, and aquariums, zoos, wildlife parks, and much more; the island has truly gained its popularity as one of the major tourist destinations on the planet.
Come here with your family and young ones and feel the magic of the Long island attractions! When I visited this beautiful island, I seriously felt as if I am on a dreamland of fantasy and fun! So, here I am mentioning of the major Long island attractions that I and my family could explore on my trip.
We first visited the Dinosaur Walk Museum. Do not think that this where you can see artificial dinosaurs walking with you. No! In fact, the museum is the home to interesting collection of more than 50 dinosaur carvings containing the original dinosaur bones. So, you walk to explore each of them and not the dinosaurs! Further, you can also visit a movie theatre showing informative films or go for some interactive children activities.
Next, the Airport Playhouse is around the year opened non-commercial theater. Herein, you can explore a schedule of 10 full-scale creations and a myriad of children’s shows. Further you can be a part of special proceedings, dinner packages, and theatre classes. To continue with the fun, we then visited the Fun 4all, Inc that is actually only for children with adult control. It is completely air-conditioned area for indoor games and activities. Herein, you can take a tour of slides, towers, a rock wall climb, a basketball court, ball pits, tunnels, preschool play areas, and a cool zone of young adventurers, a vast sand zone, a suitable snack bar, and a game zone with exchange. I am sure that children between 1 to 12 years of age will love to come here and spend much time as possible.
For some water fun, we visited the famous Splish Splash – the largest water park on the island and one of my favorites from the Long island attractions. There are several water rides and other attractions that are enough to soak you in water charm. To augment our fun, we went to the Boomers Family Fun Centre – a family fun park with miniature golf, bumper boats, train ride, go karts, batting cages, kid rides, arcade, and boomers cafe.
The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts situated on the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University in Brookville is the most alluring concert hall. It is site where more than 50 events of music, dance, and theater take place including the famous artists participating here from all around the world. It is also the dramatic abode for several leading arts organizations of the island. Then, we visited the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum that assembles and exhibits artifacts and documents related to whaling. You will come across the island’s whaling history, information on whale protection, and the past of the Cold Spring Harbor when it was a sea port.
Now, it was the turn of the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research whose sole purpose is to research and organize informational shows introducing the marine habitats of the Long Island. As it also arranges for whale watching and seal cruises annually, we managed to obtain a chance of doing such exciting activities. Then, the Long Island Game Farm offers many natural tracks that will take you to more than 75 varied types of exotic and domestic animals. You will come across animals such as the ring-tailed lemurs, buffalo, squirrel monkeys, cougars, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, and alligators. The fun does not stop here, but increases by spending some time at one of the zoos and feeding the small little ones or just watching the newborns in the nursery.
Next, the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium Center will educate you about the fresh water ecosystems in New York. Holding the largest surviving collection of freshwater reptiles, fish, and amphibians; you can really explore this natural heritage of the city in a really alluring way. Do not forget to take a tour sheet that will guide you exploring the hatchery and aquarium as you are expected to do so on your own in the absence of a guide. You can even buy some food for feeding the trout fish.
Now, it was time for some thrill and so we headed towards the Long Island Adventureland that has been revealing its magic since 1962. It is quite innovative in the sense that it keeps on introducing some new ride or game each year. Currently, there are some 25 rides, a wonderful arcade, a mini-golf area, and other means of fun for family. Do not miss this one, as I really loved it for its entertaining ways.
In order to gain some peace and relaxation, there is not good place than the Old Westbury Gardens serving so since 1906. Feel the serene ambiance amidst gardens and landscaped zones intersecting with woodlands, lakes, and ponds. Oh yes! Do spend some time in exploring the splendid Charles II-style mansion.
